Xavier Weber Yeah I think you make some outstanding points! There’s so many utilities that could require water. Could be in 4 Tiers, Buckets (could be a tool for a cook as you mentioned! Would be nice to see wooden then iron buckets for cooks maybe even making mortar?) next tier could be wells, allows for water away from rivers but needs to be in at least temperate environment. Then naturally piping could come out with smelting but would be a public project for people in deserts. I think salt water needs to be differentiated. Like salt water can be used for some things and not for others. Like mortar could use salt maybe? Salt could even be a labor intensive thing for cooks to craft. It’s just be boiling salt water or something.
Zachary Frederick Yes really good points. In Eco, wells could even be dug in the ground to aquifers (so you have to find an underground pocket of water with the drill and dig to it), and operate the well to lift the water in a bucket. Later you could use pumps and pipes to fill water tanks to take buckets, and connect more modern workbenches directly to pipes (like kitchen object with its tap). There could also be springs in the wild, allowing to take water directly (no labor to lift), which would then be great settlement spots. You should also have option to distillate salt water to fresh water (with a lot of fuel), and producing salt as byproduct. Later on, maybe electrolysis to have an electric powered machine you can pipe salt water in and get fresh water and salt out. Salt would also be a nice addition to cooking (we already have the salt bucket :) and late game could be used in some advanced chemistry recipes. Dropping salt or salt water on the ground would massively kill the flora, which could be of some use when you want to build in an area.
I agree on thirst. But I'd like to see apple trees, cofee beans and lemon trees aswell, to make juice, coffee and lemonade. And add a bartender as a profession. Also I think eating while seated should give a bonus. So people are more willing to sit in the restaurant to eat a meal instead of just take out and eat while at the factory.
Yvonne Borst yeah! I remember you posting that on another post! I really like the “restaurant” idea. Especially if it’s MORE calories while used inside the restaurant. That’d be really cool.
Fresh water was always one of the key aspect of settlement development, so it should be more important in Eco. Thirst could be helping, with some recipes to have drinkable items on you. But to make it really important, fresh water should be added in a lot of crafts, so some professions should really settle near (clean) rivers or lakes. Cooking on a pot should always use one bucket of water (charred items of course not, salads should not require burning wood but that's another topic). Also making dough, concrete, forming clay in bricks, making paper, concentrating ores and so on.
