The version on mac does not launch due to access rights
There are several levels of access rights to files on a Mac.
Now there are only: r (read - reading a file or directory contents) and w (write - writing to a file or directory).
And you need to add: x (execute - executing a file or reading the contents of a directory).
Now you have to run it through the command:
chmod +x /Applications/Eco.app/Contents/MacOS/Eco

The issue you mention only appears when extracting the files via the mac included extractor and there is a FAQ about that on that very tracker. Please also note that Mac is not officially supported by Eco.
