Structural & Forest Fires

Where various activities (e.g. cooking, campfires, heavy industry, poorly maintained vehicles, etc) could increase the risk of starting fires in buildings or in the environment. If there's weather/seasons at some point, then risk could rise/lower based on conditions. Climate change conditions could then modify the risks as well (creating hotter, drier conditions in summers) Structural fires could have different rates of spread depending on construction materials. Naturally, firefighting tools and tech would be good to add as well (e.g. buckets, sprinklers, fire extinguishers, fire trucks).

I really like the idea, but I think would need some extra tweaking? Like if fire spreads to other properties, especially in a town/country in tight knit areas, and you have one person where the these mechanics would take effect, they could potentially frustrate people out of playing the game cuz it’d be too decimating… really great idea, just wanting to make it plausible where it’s not going to deter people from playing. Maybe if it’s isolated? Like if one property catches on fire, it won’t spread? Even with an individual incident… might be no reward and a lot of risk.

I like the idea to have disasters, and it would add a risk and the need to fight the hazard, but it won't really fit in the game "disconnected" gameplay. If the fire spreads when no one is connected, or no one with firefighting abilities, and properties are destroyed, it would just feel bad. So maybe just have some conditions that could trigger local forest fires that destroys a small area of nature, which could be avoided with good forest management and correct placement of campfires and other firebased items.

Xavier Weber Good points.. Would probably be good to make sure that "firefighting" itself isn't an ability that only some people can have, but maybe making the firefighting equipment is where the skills come into play. But, everyone can use it once it's made.

Toron Archibald I think Xavier Weber makes some good additions to my above points, maybe it’s nature that gets effected? Could be really cool to add. I wonder how easy making an “automated” system would be, like fire trucks that can drive anywhere there is a 2 wide road, and could be driverless. Another tier could be fire helicopters these could work while even offline? Idk it’s a stretch but would be really cool to add more cons of hurting the environment… which is much needed!

Zachary Frederick I could definitely imagine there being some automated type systems.. Even if it's just automatic sprinklers to protect structures or the area around structures. They already have stuff to pipe water around, so that would give an extra use of such plumbing. Maybe there could be firefighting drones or something too? idk.. I guess it would depend how on-theme that would be for the devs. There would definitely be lots to think about to design it in a way that doesn't become a point of frustration for players instead of being fun.
