There already is a feature to sneak (Ctrl by default). It would be helpful if sneaking would prevent you from falling off of blocks. This would make it easier to build the top layers of a building.

Sure it's a blaintent Minecraft feature but, so what? Not only does it work but it is also what people are instinctively used to, so upon implementation it would be natural for players to discover and use without even realising.
