Show available storage space in store tooltip/UI

Very often, you travel a long way with a heavy load of goods to a store in order to sell to them, only to find out they have no space for your goods! Adding information on how much space a store has for receiving goods sold to it would largely solve this problem, as I could just check that before traveling all the way to the store. It could be as simple as adding this to the store's tooltip: "X m3 stockpile storage available, Y slots of chest storage available".

Matt Hesser That unfortunately would still require to heavily query information, as the system needs to decide which buy orders to close, as not all buy orders may be faced with insufficient space (or close all, despite that not being necessary, whenever one good has no room anymore). It would also suffer the same problem of players crafting filling and emptying storages on the fly - there would barely be any difference in compute power required as storage capacity would still continuously change and require a new decision on if the store is now open or closed (and for which parts of the orders, if that is desired) - the only difference is that it wouldnt need to display something. Instead it would lead to potential notification spam with stores closing and opening, but the whole requirement to check storage capacity continuously would still be there. I hence merged this into the other suggestion.

Dennis Scholz, ah I see. Thank you for replying!

We have already investigated that in the past, but found that doing this would cause an extreme performance impact, given we would need to check for every single item in every single store if there is accessible space in regular intervals, due to there being a multitude of storage options that are limited to specific goods. Unfortunately, that is not worth the tradeoff. Please note that you can still vote on this issue despite it being "Closed" and we may reconsider this if it gets enough traction, but players should be aware of the implications such a system would have.

Dennis Scholz: What if it was even simpler? Show a list of all the storages a store is connected to, and the number of free slots or weight capacity on each of them, and let the player figure out if that's enough room for their goods? Example: Store Free storage: Stockpile 1: 8 slots Stockpile 2: 0 slots Chest 1: 7 slots Campfire 1 Fuel storage: 1 slot Small wood cart 1: 3 slots, 277kg etc. It wouldn't give you a perfect idea of how much you could sell, but it would at least give you a pretty good ballpark - if there's only a few stockpiles with a few slots left, probably there isn't any room, if there's a stockpile with 20 free slots there is definitely a lot of room. I can only speculate without knowing more about how Eco works internally, but I'm guessing this would be algorithmically fairly simple - not much different data than the storage tab when viewed by a store's owner, just filtered to only show free slots. Either way, I appreciate the response, and hope we can get some solution to this problem some day.

MetallicDragon: While that is certainly possible, it still requires querying all storages of each store and the amount of empty slots in regular intervals. The result would additionally be just short of a UX nightmare - especially given we plan to in the near future rework our UI's to remove such clunkyness and decrease reliance on tooltips alone for basically everything. I'm pretty sure users would react even more negative to this, given the question of "Why am I made to count myself, ****?"
