Link soil moisture to rain
Right now it appears that rain mostly just turn air pollution into land pollution.
I think it'd be nice to make soil moisture somethink that is more dynamic and make rain more relevant. The soil would simply go dry over time as is normally the case and go back up when it rains.
It would make it so the farmer has to be a little more careful about what he plants and where. It would requiere the addition of watering tools (from the basic watering can at the start to automated sprinkler at the end of the game). Maybe also add a moisture retention parameter to the soil that could be altered by the fertilizing profession (like adding clay pebbles or something).
Also, making rain a random event that is more or less likely to occur every time period based on the biome would make it so drought (soil moisture going too low) or floods (soil moisture going too high) become possible events that have to be dealt with. Maybe a farmer would be tempted to plant crops that are suboptimal in a specific area but that would perform better in case of heavy rain.

nice idea!
