Introduce a Settlement Credit feature

Currently, the vanilla economy does not function without server-created currencies, but those are against the design philosophy of the game. There is an obvious middle ground here that would simultaneously allow functioning economies and a bigger draw towards settlements, while leaving the core design of player-created currencies intact: Settlement Credits. The concept is simple: Add an automatically created 'Credit', just like personal credits, for each settlement when it is founded. Each settlement already has a treasury. It would simply always have infinite of its credit, just like a player. Nothing else is needed to make this function. It is simply a new tool. How players use this settlement credit is entirely up to them.Experience from multiple vanilla server runs has shown that this is exactly what players need for a server to function well, and adding this will completely overhaul the vanilla experience.

I agree. The most successful towns are usually the ones where everyone is able to "get behind" one player's credit early on. Making an automatic town currency just makes that much easier. My only fear would be that it disincentivizes the eventual minting of a true currency. Why go through the effort of producing a mint (especially if you are located far from the jungle and getting gold is difficult) when the settlement credit already does the job for free?

I dislike "minting" currency any earlier than it already is, but I am in favor of the town treasury containing an unlimited "TOWN CREDIT" that could function to the purpose listed above. It would require minimal re-coding, and given it doesn't remove any other paths would be completely optional for players without forcing those who do not want it to use it.

10/10 Would definitely choose a town with this option over one that didn't

100% some of the best runs I have done involved someone sacrificing themselves to use their credits as a standard for a settlement. It is such a simple but effective change I back this massively.

^^^ We needed this years ago and this is still super relevant, please add this feature! It's not a lot of work but this will change how people see the currency and how it's managed, optics is everything!
