Farming irrigation systems, more farm improvements
Building a watering system to make the crops grow faster. Also make the animals eat the crops, so you need to build a fence and scarecrow to protect the farm.

Canals should have been a feature to change the soil humidity so some crops could be grown in dry regions where they naturally do not grow. And they sorta do this but practically they are useless and they feel neglected since forever
compost could be digged under the soil to improve ground quality
