This idea of Chemist profession could tie in nicely with the idea of "beyond the meteor" https://eco.canny.io/feature-suggestions/p/beyond-the-meteor
Chemistry seems with animal husbandry a lack in the current game. It definitely should follow some cooking research (it is indeed chemistry). It should have a strong link to Oil Drilling, as a requirement and for providing some input materials. So I would make that a T2 unlock needing cooking and geology to unlock, give them the laboratory recipe to craft. They should be using glass, crushed minerals and concentrate ores for crafting intermediate products (quicklime and cement like, steel ingredients, electronics & industry ingredients like acids). They could have recipes to work on sewage filtered for making fertilizers ingredients, instead of direct compost. Add them some natural oil recipes and cosmetics and soaps production for bathroom value. Some products may also be used in advanced cooking. Water input would be required and waste water generated by some recipes.
this could be a fertilizer late game tech path
The skill could actually be insanely massive addition tbh.. depending how deep they want to get into chemical stuff. Could merge itself into nearly every skill as well. So could be very demanding and yeah I could see it as part of mid game as well as beyond the current late game.
